SUMTER LEGISLATOR SAYS JFK MOVIE RENTAL, WEEK-OLD PIZZA LED TO AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH

FITSNews - December 17, 2006 - So you thought fighting for taxpayer-friendly budgets, pushing “Jessica’s Law” through the South Carolina General Assembly and being one of only 38 Legislators in the entire country to be honored by the national Humane Society was all S.C. Rep. Murrell Smith was about?

Hell no.

The Sumter Representative finished off the year with a bang by single-handedly solving the most notorious crime in American history, the November 22, 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

“All I know is I rented the movie JFK by Oliver Stone, ate a few slices of meat lover’s pizza that had been sitting in the fridge for week or so, and fell asleep about halfway through the movie,” Smith told FITSNews. “Next thing I know, I’m in a New Orleans courtroom conclusively disproving the Warren Commission report.”

Stone, whose controversial 1991 conspiracy film won two Academy Awards and led to passage of the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act in the U.S. Congress, said he was very interested in meeting with Smith to discuss his insights into the tragic events in Dealey Plaza forty-three years ago.

“This could be the breakthrough we’ve been looking for after all these years,” Stone told FITSNews. “Murrell Smith is a brave American for coming forward like this. He is risking his life for his country.”

Stone rejected the assertion that Smith merely left the volume on his television set turned all the way up as he fell asleep, and actually only dreamt that he was playing Kevin Costner’s character in the movie.

“That kind of fabrication is representative of the lies perpetrated by the military-industrial complex, the federal government and the mainstream media in this country,” Stone said.

For his part, Smith isn’t letting his newfound fame get to his head. Nor is he planning on changing his weekend movie rental routine.

“The wife and I are renting In Her Shoes and The Bourne Supremacy next week,” Smith said. “We’re excited.”
