Introducing Speaker Cobb-Hunter May 24, 2007
Posted by fitsnews in : SC Politics , trackbackWHO’S THE MAYOR OF IMPORTANTVILLE NOW?
FITSNews - May 24, 2007 - We’ve got to hand it to our homegirl Gilda Cobb-Hunter. After the election of Democrat Donald W. Beatty to the S.C. Supreme Court yesterday, the former House Minority Leader (and driving force behind the suddenly omnipotent S.C. Legislative Black Caucus) is by far and away the most powerful politician in the State of South Carolina.
With the Republican majority officially in splinters, Cobb-Hunter’s influence in Palmetto politics is at its zenith. Not only is she widely credited for getting current House Speaker Bobby Harrell his job to begin with, she may well have just punched the ticket for his would-be replacement, Rep. Harry Cato, who we hear is already being referred to around the S.C. State House as “Gilda’s Speaker Pro Tempore.”
Believe it or not, we’ve always loved us some Gilda Cobb. And she’s always loved her some Sic Willie. And who knows? Maybe with South Carolina Republicans still blowing your tax dollars like a Leaf-O-Matic, putting the Democrats in charge for awhile isn’t such a bad idea …

not funny. insulting. and racist. just what we expect from a skinhead. next you will attack gloria haskins for trading her vote because she is hispanic.
Nah, not so racist. But ballsy, or stupid. I would never, ever, make fun/pick a fight with Ms. Cobb-Hunter. She scares the ink-stained shit out of me.
People, people. This is praise for Mrs. Cobb-Hunter, light-hearted praise but praise nonetheless.
Gilda is running the show and pulling the strongs right now. Simple as that.
How is it racially insensitive to call someone the most powerful political figure in the state?
-FITSNews
Because you are white, and she is black. Therefore, you have a presumed racism until you prove otherwise.
Welcome to the 21st century.
The GOP is going to wake up in a few months and wonder what happened to our party and why is Gilda’s the one mixing the Kool-aid. We better circle the wagons and keep our powder dry.
Buster,
Circle the wagons? Keep our powder dry? We don’t see any way in hell Speaker Cobb-Hunter would have grown government the way Republicans have in recent years.

First, those of you who correctly believe that Ms. Buck Toooooffffffthhh is bullet proof get yourself a scotch on me.
Second, just because the author of this page has somewhat of a past does not mean that he is unable to speak the truth. I know many of you critics. I know how some of you like to spend you evenings. I have pictures. Why do you seem to enjoy trashing someone who is fellow GOP kindred spirit?
The real culprits that deserve your ire should be the GOP idiots who elected the most liberal of three candidates to the Supreme Court..
I’m glad I’m not the only one who was confused as to how this was an attack on the woman.
And GKP hit the nail on the head.
Willie, I to believe that “our” party, which are in control of both body’s are spending wrecklessly. But, there were deals made over the past weeks that will bring “our” party down. “We” need new leadership now more than ever, and I’m not sure who “we” look to.
Yeah let’s vote all the Republican leaders out of the legislature. That sounds like a fantastic idea!
Let’s face it folks. We Republicans do not have a majority anymore. The state house is over run with liberal republicans who may as well just run as democrats.
They have spent, spent, spent. They have elected liberals to the court which will haunt us for years to come. And they are backward liberals when it comes to education.
I can tell you that I have given my last dime to “republicans” who act this way. I will not give any money to dems, I guess I’ll just take another vacation.
Politics is about power. And republicans, especially leaders like Harrell, Cooper, and Leatherman think about their power first, and somewhere down the line the people they represent. Way down the line.
It’s my understanding that Judge Bruce Williams is already standing in the State House underground parking lot “gauntlet” shaking hands for the next race. Shouldn’t he be working, instead? Interesting he had no comment to the press about the attack ad against Beatty. Unreal.

Oh, ho, “Liberal Republicans?” “South Carolina?” Jesus – it’s like facism isn’t far enough to the right for you people. Hi. My name’s Hack. Take me to your “internment camp.”
[...] Down in the legislature, even the most optimistic Democrats aren’t projecting a shift in control of either the State Senate or the House of Representatives, but several Republican elected officials have confided to FITSNews that the GOP’s margin will be “significantly smaller.” Of course, we just laughed at that and told them Democrats were already in control in the state legislature, which they are.
