CONNECTICUT RAMPAGE SPURS GUN BUYING BONANZA
If the desired outcome of the elementary school massacre in Newton, Connecticut this week was a demonization of guns and a ramp-up of gun control laws, the early returns aren’t looking so good – at least not in South Carolina.
Saturday December 15, 2012 may have been the busiest single day for gun sales in the Palmetto State’s history, sources close to the U.S. Attorney’s office tell FITS. These sources were confirming anecdotal reports we obtained from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents who were conducting background checks in connection with the wave of new purchases.
Prominently featured among the new gun owners?
Teachers …
“I was just at Shooter’s Choice,” one of our sources said, referring to a gun store/ range in West Columbia, S.C. “Four teachers from Brennan Elementary School were there and they signed up for their CWP (concealed weapons’ permit) classes while testing hand guns for purchase on the range.”
Brennan is a downtown Columbia, S.C. elementary school.
Good for these teachers … and good for their students. We’re not saying that teachers with firearms could have stopped the massacre in Connecticut. We are saying that if teachers want to take steps to protect themselves in their own classrooms, that’s a good thing.
Currently South Carolina law prohibits teachers (or anyone except a law enforcement official) from carrying a weapon onto school property – concealed or otherwise. Well, that’s the law at government-run schools anyway.
Of course many teachers don’t abide by that law – a number that could soar in the aftermath of the Newton shooting.
“More teachers may start carrying illegally now,” one source told us.

That is quite a straw man that teacher erects. I, like every conservative I know, love teachers. The parasites are public sector unions (be they for teachers, subway workers, whatever). Its not about trusting UNIONS to be able to collectively bargain, the evidence is quite clear that unions are very good at maximizing their own advantage. The problem is that the unions are negotiating with politicians they put in office. So they are essentially “negotiating” with their own sock puppets who rubber stamp ridiculous contracts.

Why should teachers be the only ones carrying weapons? Every person at an educational institution, K-12 and beyond — students, faculty, librarians, coaches, nurses, kitchen help, janitors, bus drivers — should be trained in firearms and carry a pistol. Gun control is not the solution, and Friday pretty much proves it. Connecticut has some of the strongest gun laws in the country, yet here we see someone who was determined to hurt others killing a law abiding citizen, his own mother, and taking their arms to cause that hurt. Now if this person is willing to take the life of their own mother in order to obtain arms to cause death and mayhem then what regard do you think they will have for laws?
Throwing around words like “assault weapon” “Bushmaster” “assault rifle” is pointless. Bushmaster is a brand, there’s no such thing as an assault weapon, or you could say that every weapon (gun, blade, bat, etc) is an assault weapon, and assault rifles are select fire weapons, which are so rare in crimes that you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning while being eaten by a shark than shot by one.
Creating limits by law, on those who follow the law, does nothing to help situations like this. You say if no one has guns, this wouldn’t happen, but the criminal element /always/ has guns.

Every year thousands of young men and women leave the military. My understanding is that a fair number of them have trouble finding gainful employment.
Given the number of free programs where individuals get something for doing nothing why would it not be possible for the military and schools to team up and provide employment for those who plan to leave the military.
During the last six months of an enlistment a soldier could be assigned to a local school for purpose of security. The cost of this deployment would be shared by the military and the school.
This type of assignment would help soldiers transition back to civilian life, make contacts to secure long term employment and be a visible force of opposition to those who want to make schools a killing ground
Nuts are nuts and they are going to do what they do. However I do believe that even nuts will have second thoughts before parading onto school grounds knowing that there are battle geared armed soldiers patrolling the grounds.
Every night national media seems to have videos of American Soldiers patrolling Foreign schools, public buildings and parks protecting the lives of innocent citizens.
I have never heard of a liberal, conservative or libertarian complain about protecting children of other nations.
The children in Connecticut were and are just as innocent as the children of Afghanistan.

Th complete militarization of our society is nonsense. Kids should not be in schools behind barb wire with soldiers patrolling.
Reasonable gun control is much more desirable.
How about a stringent gun license and training that matches what we get in the military? I know more about how to handle violent situations because I was trained and learned that deadly force is not the first option.
What speaks against gun ownership only for people olde than 25? Exceptions can be given but need to be justified…I mean 21 is the drinking age in this country!

Did they feel safe, yes.
I do think that it is time to think outside of the box and make some reasonable choices based on what resources we have, current laws and common sense.
So a kid gets picked on by a bully at school and simply retaliates by breaking into his teacher’s locked drawer and stealing their pistol. Sounds like way more risk than benefit. Why not just have more resource officers? BTW the 2nd amendment is an archaic document.

In Europe kids do not go to schools and enter through a metal detector.
There is not even s lock done procedure in France, Germany, England I know of.

Why is there such an outrage regarding the ban of fully automatic assault weapons? YOU CAN’T BUY ONE ANYWAY, at least in SC!! That’s a fact. Only LE and the Military can legally possess these weapons.
I took a Public Safety Citizens Class several years ago with a local LE agency. The Chief of that department asked us pupils if we would like to go shooting on their gun range. Of course, being a CWP holder and one that loves to shoot, my hand went up first.
When we arrived at the range, the Chief had several guns to shoot. One was a fully automatic MP3 rifle. I begged to shoot it!! He set it on 3-round bursts (it went up to 5). I fired and met center mass on the target. It was the sweetest rifle I have ever shot. He told me I was very good with it, and allowed me to fire at the target at will! I said, “Wow! I want one for Christmas!” He replied, “And I’d have to arrest you.” He then proceeded to school me on the law regarding automatic vs. semi-automatic weapons. I didn’t tell him that I already knew the law and was just kidding! Since he let me shoot his automatic rifle (which I will probably never have the opportunity to do again), I let him talk.
If the federal government bans fully automatic weapons, the only people that will be affected by that is police officers and members of the Military, who are the very people that are TAUGHT how to use those weapons in the line of duty.
So, what sense does it make to ban fully automatic weapons, other than our LE and Military will no longer be on the same playing field as criminals who STEAL these weapons or obtain them from the black market?
That’s right, it makes NO sense whatsoever.
As far as teachers and other educators arming themselves, I see NO problem with it whatsoever. Just taking a CWP class, does not train you to fire your personal weapon. They must have hours upon hours of range time before they will be fully comfortable carrying. We have three grandchildren, ages 6, 5 and 2. I carry every day, all day. They have absolutely NO CLUE that I carry, nor have they EVER seen a weapon in our house. I’m not about to provide them with the curiousity.
Someone mentioned that a child could get it out of a teacher’s purse. Leaving a personal weapon in a purse is absolutely the most STUPID thing a woman can do. First of all, by the time you need it, you have to dig for it and it could be too late. Secondly, a purse can be stolen (or dug through by someone else) – and there goes the weapon only to be used in another crime. Thirdly, the BEST place for a concealed weapon is ON YOUR PERSON!! If a teacher carries their weapon completely concealed on their person (as it should be), then students will not have access to it.

You can own an automatic if you the ATF background check and pay the $750 per year tax on it. Papers come with each weapon,including a beautiful full color picture of you on the front. The Fed’s also check up on you regularly. When they knock on your door with their copy of your federal license, you better be ready to show them the weapon,RIGHT THEN!
Banning full automatic assault rifles for the general public will not prevent LE and military to have them – nonsense!
I have 30 years experience using fire arms and the only place I want to be when a CWP holder pulls his weapon is far far far way.
We cannot turn fire men, teachers, university professors, cashiers into a private security army – the number of accidents and erroneous shooting would sky rocket.

Here’s a simple answer. Have a SRO (School Resource Officer)in every school. Spend the damn money. This way you have a trained person to answer the threat and the know how of how to contact other officers with the necessary information needed to quickly end the threat. 1. No notice DNA testing like DWI checkpoints and weed out those who “ain’t got their minds right”
2. Same for ALL public building entrances be they federally,state or local funded. Access is denied if the DNA scan is cross linked to the individual’s DNA profile and that individual has been registered to be harmful to society (listeners to talk radio will be given priority to pass freely if they have registered with the TEA party and have their DNA cataloged in their data bank).
3. All individuals who fail access to all portals will be regulated to menial jobs and spend the rest of their lives paying restitution to the state by way of “Get your Shit Right, Inc.”
Part of the proceeds pay for upkeep of the data bank and the remainder for private security and subsidizing automatic weapons for the populace in order to maintain the safety of the masses. If the individual cannot function in the present system they will be painlessly & instantly dispatched by a nuclear powered incinerator at at temperature of 2000 degrees centigrade. The individuals will be randomly selected by a computer generated lottery and viewed on pay-per-view in real time HD quality video. The fees generated from this pay-per view will be rotated back to “Get Your Shit Right,Inc. to fund future broadcasts and administration of the individuals who were not selected for the present lottery. It is expected that this revolving fund will be self-sufficient within 1 year from start of production……….

If armed people don’t get killed, why do so many cops die in the line of duty of gun fire? 2 died in Topeka Saturday night. And chances are a teacher packing heat will more likely be dead before they can reach for their gun.
This nut wanted to go out in a blaze of evil – had there been armed and trained security at the school, this still could have happened. If you want to blame something other than the evildoer, blame a public school and health care system that could let a seriously derranged kid fall through the slats without anyone really attending to his mental health needs – the same responsibility falls on his poor family – people like this leave clues.
As much as I hate to say it, President Obama was right – this is a complicated problem – there are no easy answers – but we can’t let that push us into thinking that events like this are inevitable or unpreventable. We can do better.
Maybe the shock and outrage over this senseless horror will force us to value human lives more and protect kids better than we do. That has been in my prayers since Friday.

Dick explores the details of Baltimore’s successful “gun registry” with Frederick H. Bealfield, retired commissioner of the Baltimore Police department.
The initiative brought down the numbers of murders in signifgant ways, without increasing the number of arrests.
Bealfield says much of the success came from old-fashioned police-work, and knocking on doors.

Well well well. I suspect there will be a story on this one soon. Now legislators are going to give teachers the right to concealed carry on campus. Another step towards the police state.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I think everyone, EVERYONE, over the age of 16ish should be required to open carry at all times. No business or gubmint angency should be allowed to prevent you from having a firearm at your side at all times.
The criminals don’t give a rats patoot about whether its legal or illegal. The police are not about preventing crime, though its nice when they do. The purpose of the police is to, plain and simply, arrest those that have committed crimes. So what does any of this have to do with the first paragraph?
It won’t be long before teachers, really one of the few gubmint departments left without them, are given arrest powers. Don’t like teachers teaching your 10 year olds how to use a condom and practice safe sex. Tough Nawnnies. Your under arrest. Don’t like little johnnie or jane reading some book. STFU before I blow your head off!!
