Rick Santorum: The GOP Isn’t Changing

The Republican Party keeps losing elections because of its failure to appeal to evangelical voters, a pair of failed presidential candidates contend. Not only that, these two sanctimonious Bible thumpers believe the party should resist any effort to adopt a more libertarian tone on social issues.

“The Republican Party isn’t going to change,” former Pennsylvania Senator Santorum told reporter Jonathan Martin of The Politico. “If we do change, we’ll be the Whig Party. We’re not the Libertarian Party, we’re the Republican Party.”

Hmmmmm. All we can say is “good luck with all that.”

According to Santorum, both U.S. John McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney veered too far to the left on social issues in their races – costing Republicans the White House in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

“If we had candidates in the last two presidential elections who weren’t ashamed of the positions they had on these issues and played offense, instead of listening to the same people who now want to abandon the issues, we would’ve been successful,” Santorum said.

A notorious fiscal liberal, Santorum was one of the “compassionate conservatives” who joined former U.S. President George W. Bush in exploding the national debt (and eroding individual liberty) during the previous decade.

Santorum’s take was shared by another fiscally liberal Bible thumper, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

“The last two presidential elections, we had more moderate candidates, so if anything a lot of conservatives went to the polls reluctantly or just didn’t go at all,” Huckabee told Martin. “If all of the evangelicals had showed up, it may have made a difference.”

Really?

While we believe Santorum and Huckabee are dead wrong in their assessments (as we’ve made clear in the past), we’re not going to fight them for the rotting carcass of ideological bankruptcy, corruption and hypocrisy that is the GOP.

As far as we’re concerned, it’s all theirs …

Santorum is an idiot and shouldn’t be given an stitch of media coverage. Let him, his ridiculous ideals and his stupid face fade away into nothingness where it belongs.

The GOP keeps losing because it is loaded with morons like him!

“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything.”-Rick Santorum

I still can’t see Santorm’s last name without thinking about the definition of it. If you don’t already know it, Google it. Huckabee is scum of the lowest order, IMHO. He should be hiding in shame somewhere, afraid to show his face. His insistence on freeing a criminal who should have remained in jail, resulted in the deaths of four police officers and the sexual assault of a young girl.

These flip-side Muslims (a fundy is a fundy) need to go away and practice what they preach if they like, but leave the rest of the wold to live in the 21st Century.

Your father’s GOP jumped in bed with the evangelicals 20+ years ago and thought they had built an enduring coalition. Now they have found the evangelicals hijacking the primary process and saddling the party with a bunch of “flat earthers” for the general election.
Of course, that matters little for the gerrymandered house districts, where all the science-challenged folk are roped together. But it scares off the independents the party needs for victory. And many of those independents might otherwise be receptive to the economic message.

W. won as a Conservative…. Obama was given the job because W. listened to FITS-Libertarian (make pop culture love me) Karl Rove in W’s second term….

The GOP is losing because it’s putting up FITS-Libertarian candidates like Sanford, Johnson, Portman, McCain, Graham and Romney.

If the GOP keeps going to the middle, maybe it can get down to 4% of the vote like the Libertarians get every time they run….

Ronald Reagan would be ashamed of this war-mongering, Bible-thumping party. The GOP will continue to lose general elections if it remains the part of bitter old white voters who cling to tired talking points, Fox News/talk radio commentary, and a false sense of “losing the country”. The future of the GOP, if it so desires to have one is in the libertarian base. Aside from Ron Paul, what other GOP candidate was able to generate any traction with the under 30 vote? None.

This country desperately needs a mainstream party that is classically liberal like the FDP in Germany; free minds and free markets. The Libertarians unfortunately allow themselves to be typecast by mainstream media types and will likely never be taken seriously as a party. The best hope for those folks like me who lean right on most things is to re-take control of the Republican Party and kick out the creationists, neo-conservatives, and race-baiters who have made the party repugnant for independents and the minorities that it will need as the demography of America changes in the next few decades.

It’s basic common sense that the difference between primaries and the actual election is that you add people who Don’t identify as a part of your party (i.e. centrist/moderates) as part of the voters whose support you seek. Despite this, some people try to impose their desperation/wish that somehow the candidates lost by not leaning far enough towards the wing. If the answer truly was More Conservatism every time those whose votes are needed would describe themselves as Conservative instead of what they Actually call themselves: Independents.

Fundamentalism sprung up in 1915 as a backlash against Modernism. It’s a losing cause and always has been. Social Conservatives draw their ideas from Fundamentalism and it has always been a mistake to let them get the idea that they run the party and as such are the Only ones who should decide who gets nominated.

Santorum is spot on. Furthermore, the GOP lost in 2012 because the establishment, aided by RNC controlled Fox News, pre-selected a patriotic version of Thurston Howell lll to take on a charasmatic Marxist culture warrior. It was the mismatch of the century. It takes a bold, passionate, authentic conservative culture warrior to counter and beat a Marxist culture warrior. Jobs, the debt, and the economy were NOT on the ballot in November. Obama and his MSM machine directed the narrative of the presidential campaign. We did not have the luxury of making this election about the things we wanted to talk about. Understand that Obama won on social and cultural issues because our Rominee had zero credibiltiy to counter him on them and instead bobbed, weaved, and ran away from them. Get a clue. You don’t put a social liberal up against another social liberal. Watering down the socially and culturally conservative nature of classic Republicanism is a death knell for the party and for the country. Does anyone actually believe that the 4 million Christian conservatives who refused to go out and vote for the milquetoast moderate Romney will actually flock to the polls in 2016 for a GOP candidate even further to the left on social issues than Romney presented himself to be? Are you people mad? Christian and traditional GOP conservatives will never accept an Ayn Randian takeover of the party without a fight. We won’t cave on our principles and values. If the party does tilt left, we all jump ship. Your ignorance in pushing for your socially liberal agenda will guarantee permanent Marxocrat control of this country from here on out.

The 2016 election will likewise present Hillary Clinton, another Marxist culture warrior, as the Democrat candidate. It’s a given. NO Democrat candidate will be running on anything other than social and cultural change. Period. This will be the epic showdown of worldviews that determines the soul, direction, and very survival of our traditional American culture and our nation. 2016 must be Hillary “It Takes A Village” Clinton vs Rick “It Takes A Family” Santorum. It’s a huge plus that the senator’s credentials and vision on the economy, national security, and domestic issues are equally as strong as his socially conservative bonafides. You can twist and distort his record and his vision all you want. It only goes to prove your ignorance. He successfully weaves the economic issues into the social and cultural discussion. That is the only way these issues will get any attention in the national spotlight. No one understands and proves this better than Santorum. Nobody. I’ve watced time and again how he totally messes up a liberal’s mindset with logic, reason, and faith. Our candidate has to be able to change hearts and minds. He does, and he does it very well. Here’s a novel idea: how about actually listening to the man himself instead of foaming at the mouth with each and every liberal hit piece posted on the net evaluating what he said. Let me get this straight. The republican party loses big in 2012, so big that it has to conduct an “autopsy” on itself in the following months. But now head Bible thumper Rick Santorum boldly says “We will not change anything about our party or our movement, ever.” And the sickeningly sanctimonious Huckster agrees. Of course.
